Some people were upset because Barack Obama essentially claimed that his Grandmother being afraid of an aggressive black panhandler and the deranged ravings of the "Rev." Wright were morally equivalent. Now, trying to back-pedal from that position, he's said something far, far dumber than that.
Obama said in an interview with Philadelphia Sports Radio station WIP 610 Thursday that the point he was making, in drawing such a comparison, is that his Grandmother is a "typical white person." To be clear, here's what he said about his Grandmother — who, by the way, raised him and is still alive. He described her as:
"...a woman who once confessed her fear of black men who passed by her on the street, and who on more than one occasion has uttered racial or ethnic stereotypes that made me cringe."
In other words, in Obama's world, all white people are afraid of black people and go around spitting out ethnic and racial stereotypes. Good to know.
The Racist That Keeps on Giving: Obama
Former 1984 Vice Presidential candidate Geraldine Ferraro said today that she objected to the comparison Barack Obama drew between her and his former pastor in his speech on "race" Tuesday.
In the same speech, Obama sought to place the racist remarks of the Jeremiah Wright in a broader context, in part by placing them on a continuum with Ferraro’s recent remark to the Daily Breeze that Obama is fortunate to be black.
"To equate what I said with what this racist bigot (Wright) has said from the pulpit is unbelievable," Ferraro said today. "He gave a very good speech on race relations, but he did not address the fact that this man is up there spewing hatred."
