North Korea says UN sanctions imposed following last week's nuclear test are a declaration of war

The North Korean statement also promised to strike against those who try to topple its leaders.

U.S. spy satellites are reported to have detected activity near North Korea's nuclear test site heightening fears that the isolated communist state may be preparing to carry out a second bomb test.

The news was greeted with alarm in the region.

The U.S. warned North Korea that a second test would further deepen the country's isolation and urged Pyongyang to return to six-party talks aimed at persuading North Korea to abandon its nuclear ambitions.
